Use the General tab to view the properties of a mailbox database, change its name, specify the database maintenance schedule, and more.

Use this tab to view and configure the following attributes of a mailbox database.

Name

This unlabeled box at the top of the tab displays the name of the mailbox database. You can change the name of the database by typing a new name in this box.

Database path

This field displays the full path to the Exchange database (.edb) file for the selected mailbox database. To view the entire path, you may have to click the path and use the RIGHT ARROW key.

You cannot use this field to change the path. To change the location of the database files, close Properties, right-click the database, and then click Move Database Files. You can also change the location by using the Move-DatabasePath (RTM) cmdlet in the Exchange Management Shell.

Database copy path

If local continuous replication (LCR) is enabled for the storage group that contains the mailbox database, this field displays the location of the copy of the mailbox database. To view the entire path, you may have to click the path and use the RIGHT ARROW key.

Last full backup

This field displays the date and time of the last complete backup of the mailbox database.

Last incremental backup

This field displays the date and time of the last incremental backup of the mailbox database.

Status

This field displays whether the mailbox database is mounted or dismounted.

Modified

This field displays the last date and time that the mailbox database was modified.

Journal Recipient

Select this check box, and then click Browse if you want to specify a journal recipient. For information about journaling and journaling recipients, see Overview of Journaling.

Maintenance schedule

Use this list to select one of the pre-set maintenance schedules.

You can also configure a custom schedules. To configure a custom schedule, in the Maintenance schedule list, select Use Custom Schedule, and then click Customize.

Do not mount this database at startup

Select this check box to prevent Exchange from mounting this mailbox database when it starts.

This database can be overwritten by a restore

Select this check box to allow the mailbox database to be overwritten during a restore process.
