Use the SMTP Address and Custom Address dialog boxes to specify a new e-mail address and address type for the recipient. This dialog box appears when you click Add or Edit on the E-mail Addresses tab in a recipient's property page.

To open the Custom Address dialog box, on the E-Mail Addresses tab, click the down arrow next to Add, and then click Custom Address. |
- E-mail address

Use this box to type the new address.
Note: Exchange validates Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) addresses for proper formatting. If your entry is inconsistent with SMTP format, an error message will be displayed when you click OK.
- E-mail type

- Use this box to type the e-mail address type. The e-mail
address type cannot exceed 9 characters.
- The e-mail address type is the identifying proxy information
for the e-mail address. Exchange uses this information to determine
how to process the e-mail address.
Note: In the SMTP Address dialog box, this box is automatically populated with SMTP and cannot be modified. - Examples of custom e-mail types include X400, GroupWise, and
Lotus Notes.
- This box is disabled when editing existing e-mail
addresses.
- Use this box to type the e-mail address type. The e-mail
address type cannot exceed 9 characters.
