This topic explains how to enable the Post Office Protocol version 3 (POP3) service for Microsoft Exchange Server 2007. When you install Exchange 2007, the POP3 service is not started. You can use the Services snap-in in Microsoft Management Console (MMC) or the Exchange Management Shell to set the POP3 service to start automatically.

Before You Begin

To perform this procedure, the account you use must be delegated the Exchange Server Administrator role and membership in the local Administrators group for the target server.

Procedure

To use Microsoft Management Console to enable POP3

  1. In the Services snap-in, in the console tree, click Services (Local).

  2. In the results pane, right-click Microsoft Exchange POP3, and then click Properties.

  3. On the General tab, under Startup type, select Automatic, and then click Apply.

  4. Under Service status, click Start, and then click OK.

To use the Exchange Management Shell to enable POP3

  1. Run the following command:
