The Mediation Server may have an inbound dependency from the public switched telephone network (PSTN) gateways associated with it. The dependency is defined as PSTN gateways on the Mediation Server. To remove the Mediation Server, you must delete the PSTN gateway from Topology Builder or reassign the PSTN gateway to another Mediation Server. You can remove the association of a PSTN gateway with a Mediation Server, but you must associate the PSTN gateway with a valid Mediation Server before publishing the topology. If you do not remove the PSTN gateway dependency and you delete the Mediation Server, the definition persists for the Mediation Server that no longer exists in the topology document and causes a Topology Builder document that is not valid and cannot be published. You resolve this condition by associating the PSTN gateway with another Mediation Server, and then publishing the topology.

The procedures in this topic define two methods that you can use to delete PSTN gateways before you remove the Mediation Server. The first method uses the list of PSTN gateways listed in the properties of the Mediation Server, but requires you to remember or write down the PSTN gateways because you need to close the Mediation Server part of Topology Builder to work with the PSTN gateways. The second method, which is potentially faster if you have a smaller number of PSTN gateways, parses through PSTN gateways looking for the Mediation Server that the PSTN gateway is associated with.

Warning:
When you perform a remove or delete action, Topology Builder does not ask for a confirmation, nor does it warn you. If you accidentally delete the wrong object and you have not published the topology yet, right-click the Lync Server 2010 node, click Download Topology, and then click Yes in Confirm Download Topology.

To remove the PSTN gateway by association with a Mediation Server pool or stand-alone server

  1. Log on to the computer where Topology Builder is installed as a member of the Domain Admins group and the RTCUniversalServerAdmins group.

  2. Start Topology Builder: Click Start, click All Programs, click Microsoft Lync Server 2010, and then click Lync Server Topology Builder.

  3. In Topology Builder, expand the Mediation pools, and then click the Mediation Server pool or stand-alone server that you want to remove.

  4. In Mediation Server, record the name or names of the PSTN gateways that are associated with the Mediation Server pool or stand-alone server.

  5. In Topology Builder, expand PSTN gateways, right-click one of the associated PSTN gateways associated with the Mediation Server pool or stand-alone server, and then click Delete.

  6. Repeat the previous step until you have removed all PSTN gateways associated with the Mediation Server pool or stand-alone server.

  2. Start Topology Builder: Click Start, click All Programs, click Microsoft Lync Server 2010, and then click Lync Server Topology Builder.

  3. In Topology Builder, expand PSTN gateways, click each PSTN gateway, and in Mediation Server PSTN gateway, look for any gateway that is associated with the Mediation Server pool or stand-alone server that you want to remove.

    Note:
The Mediation Server property indicates what Mediation Server pool or stand-alone server that the gateway is associated with.
  4. For each gateway that is associated with the Mediation Server pool or stand-alone server that you want to remove, right-click the PSTN gateway, and then click Delete.
