In Microsoft Lync Server 2010 Topology Builder, you can perform tasks related to an individual Archiving Server by either right-clicking the Archiving Server in the console tree, clicking Action in the toolbar, or clicking a task in the Actions pane, and then clicking one of the following Archiving Server options:
- Edit Properties. Opens the Edit Properties page
for the Archiving Server, where you can change the fully qualified
domain name (FQDN) of the Archiving Server, the archiving SQL
store, and the archiving file store.
- Delete. Deletes the Archiving Server from the topology
and the archiving SQL store. It also provides the option to delete
the archiving file store.
Note:
You can delete an Archiving Server only if no Front End pools or Survivable Branch Appliances are associated with it. To remove each association from the Archiving Server, click the Front End Server or Survivable Branch Appliance in the console tree, and then use the Edit Properties option to remove the Archiving Server association.

The Archiving Servers node contains an Archiving Server if you have previously added an Archiving Server to the topology in Topology Builder. However, Lync Server cannot archive instant messaging or web conferencing (messaging) until you also set up the Archiving Server, which includes installing Lync Server 2010 on the server that you want to use as an Archiving Server and configuring support for archiving. For details about setting up an Archiving Server, see Deploying Archiving in the Deployment documentation. |
In addition to the Archiving Server options described previously in this topic, you have general options from the Archiving Server node that are also available from other nodes in the console tree. This includes the following options:
- Topology. You can use this option to define a new
topology, open an existing topology, download the current topology,
save a copy of the topology, publish the topology, install a
database, merge Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 or
Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 R2 components, or
remove the deployment.
- View. You can use this option to customize the view of
in Topology Builder by selecting the items to show and hide in the
console tree views.
- Help. You can use this option to access Help for the
active node.
