The procedures in this section describe how to back up Microsoft Lync Server 2010 to enable you to recover service in the event of an outage or failure.

Note:
Microsoft Lync Server 2010 significantly simplifies backing up data and settings, as compared to previous versions of Office Communications Server. With Lync Server 2010, you can back up all settings by backing up the Central Management store, and you can use one basic procedure to back up any Standard Edition or Enterprise Edition server running any server role.

You should develop a backup and recovery strategy and plan for your organization, as described in Developing a Backup and Restoration Strategy and Plan. This strategy and plan should include the specific procedures you plan to use. Use the procedures included in this section, along with the worksheets in Backup and Restoration Worksheets, to document how you plan to back up your specific Lync Server deployment.
