In Microsoft Lync Server 2010, the Mediation Server and the A/V Conferencing Server are unique in that they can be deployed as a stand-alone pool or server, and they can also be deployed as a service on the Front End Server or Front End pool. The following procedure explains how to transition from a collocated service to a stand-alone pool or server.
To transition a collocated Mediation Server service to a server

Log on to the computer where Topology Builder is installed as a member of the Domain Admins group and the RTCUniversalServerAdmins group.
-
Start Topology Builder: Click Start, click All Programs, click Microsoft Lync Server 2010, and then click Lync Server Topology Builder.
-
Expand Standard Edition Front End Servers or Enterprise Edition Front End Servers, based on where the collocated Mediation Server is defined.
-
Do one of the following:
- For a Standard Edition Front End Servers configuration,
right-click the server name and then click Edit

the pool computers, click Next.

-
If you have an Edge pool or Edge Server defined, select the Edge pool or Edge Server, and then click Next.
