In general, you must use the administrative tools that correspond to the server version that you want to manage.
Use the Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 snap-in as follows:
- To manage Office Communications Server 2007 users and
servers.
- To access the Active Directory Users and Computers snap-in on
Office Communications Server 2007 or on a computer with the Office
Communications Server 2007 administrative tools installed.
Use the Microsoft Lync Server 2010 Control Panel as follows:
- To move legacy Office Communications Server 2007 users to Lync
Server 2010.
- To manage users on Lync Server 2010 after moving them from
Office Communications Server 2007.
Important: Only the Lync Server 2010 Control Panel should be used to move users to and from Lync Server 2010. - To manage servers running Lync Server 2010 and Lync Server
services.
You cannot install the Office Communications Server 2007 administrative tools and the Lync Server 2010 Control Panel on the same computer. In addition, the Lync Server 2010 Control Panel is not installed automatically on each server. You must manually choose on which workstation or server you want to install the tools. For details about installing the Lync Server 2010 Control Panel, see Install Lync Server Administrative Tools in the Deployment documentation.
