The Microsoft Lync Online 2010 customer account with which you want to federate be enabled for federation with your domain. By default, domain federation is enabled for Lync Online 2010 customers, so users can communicate with all domains. To verify that federation is enabled and your domain is allowed, the administrator of the Lync Online 2010 customer account must verify the settings and make any configuration changes required. For details about how the administrator of the Lync Online 2010 customer account can verify that federation support is configured as needed, see "View your company’s Lync Online settings" at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=219139. For details about enabling federation and configuring domain support, see "Edit domain federation settings" at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=219140.

Note:
A Lync Online customer can have multiple domains, including the tenant domain of the account and one or more individual domains hosted by the tenant. You can federate with the tenant domain, one or more of the domains hosted by the tenant, or both the tenant and any hosted domains. If you want to federate with more than one of the domains, the administrator of the Lync Online customer must enable federation for each of the domains to be federated.
