If you are already running Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 or Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 R2 you have two options when it comes time to install Microsoft Lync Server 2010: you can migrate your existing deployment to Lync Server 2010 (the migration option) or you can run the new deployment of Lync Server alongside your existing deployment (the coexistence scenario). Lync Server ships with several cmdlets designed to help manage migration from and/or coexistence with a previous deployment of Office Communications Server 2007 or Office Communications Server 2007 R2.

Migration and Coexistence Cmdlets

The Move-CsLegacyUser cmdlet provides a way for you to move user accounts from Office Communications Server 2007 or Office Communications Server 2007 R2 to Lync Server. If you need to move a user account "backward" (for example, from Lync Server to Communications Server 2007) use the Move-CsUser cmdlet.
