Microsoft Transporter Suite for Lotus Domino replaces several older tools. These tools have been rewritten and integrated into a suite that provides a common methodology for implementing integration and migrations from Lotus Domino to Microsoft technologies.
The Transporter Management Console implements the same Microsoft Management Console (MMC) plug-in technology that is used for managing servers that run Microsoft software. This allows administrators to use a familiar interface when configuring and managing integration and migration.
Additionally, Transporter includes a management shell based on Microsoft Windows PowerShell, which is a scripting language that improves productivity by allowing process automation. Windows PowerShell is being implemented by Microsoft Exchange Server 2007, System Center Operations Manager 2007, System Center Data Protection Manager V2, and System Center Virtual Machine Manager.
Integration between Lotus Domino servers, Active Directory directory service, and Exchange 2007 is available via:
- Directory Connector synchronizes user,
group, and Lotus Domino mail-in database information between Domino
Directories and Active Directory. This simplifies mail
addressing for both Microsoft Office Outlook and Lotus Notes
users.
- Free/Busy Connector performs lookups
so that Lotus Notes and Outlook 2007 users can look at each
other's Free/Busy schedules when scheduling meetings, regardless of
the other user's mail platform.
- SMTP mail routing implements mail
routing between Exchange 2007 and Lotus Domino servers
(including calendar invitations), without any additional tools or
add-in products. This improves scalability, redundancy, and
troubleshooting.
Migrating information from Lotus Domino to the Microsoft Collaboration platform has been simplified:
- Directory Migrator uses Domino
Directory Person document information to create
Active Directory accounts.
- Mailbox Migrator migrates information
from Domino mail databases to Exchange 2007 mailboxes and
mailbox enables user's Active Directory accounts, if
necessary.
- Application Migrator transfers
information, including access control lists (ACLs) from Domino
applications to Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services and
SharePoint Server 2007.
Other new features include:
- Updated mapping tables with richer
content
- Designed for Exchange 2007
topologies
- Users can be migrated to
Active Directory without creating Exchange 2007
mailboxes
- iCal support
- SMTP support
- Direct calendar migration
- Option to avoid duplicates when merging mail
from Domino to existing Exchange 2007 mailboxes
- Domino application ACLs migrate to
Windows SharePoint Services sites
