Before You Begin

This section describes important considerations for deploying Office Communications Server 2007 R2.

Enterprise Edition and Standard Edition

Before you begin deployment, you must choose between an Office Communications Server Enterprise Edition configuration or Office Communications Server Standard Edition, and allocate the appropriate computers. In most cases, the recommended topology is Enterprise Edition in a consolidated configuration. For details about choosing between Enterprise Edition configurations and Standard Edition, see Topology Design.

64-bit Requirement

All editions of Office Communications Server 2007 R2 must be run on 64-bit hardware with a 64-bit operating system, such as the 64-bit editions of the Windows Server 2003 operating systems or the 64-bit editions of Windows Server 2008.
