After you enable archiving at the global level, ensure that you have configured archiving on each Enterprise pool and Standard Edition server for which you want to implement archiving. You may have already configured these servers for archiving during deployment.
To configure an Enterprise pool or Standard Edition Server for archiving
-
Using an account that is a member of the RTCUniversalServerAdminsgroup, open the Office Communications Server 2007 R2 snap-in: Click Start, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Office Communications Server 2007 R2.
-
In the console tree, expand the Forestnode, and then do one of the following:
- If you are configuring archiving for an Enterprise pool, expand
Enterprise pools, right-click the name of the pool that you
want to configure, point to
Properties, and then click
Front End Properties.
- If you are configuring archiving for a Standard Edition server,
expand
Standard Edition servers, right-click the name of the server
that you want to configure, point to
Properties, and then click
Front End Properties.
- If you are configuring archiving for an Enterprise pool, expand
Enterprise pools, right-click the name of the pool that you
want to configure, point to
Properties, and then click

-
In the details pane, on the Archivingtab, do the following:
- To enable archiving on the pool or server, select the
Activate IM content archivingcheck box.
- If archiving for regulatory compliance is mission-critical for
your organization, select the
Shut down server if archiving fails (including message
encryption failure)check box.
- To enable archiving on the pool or server, select the
Activate IM content archivingcheck box.
-
In the server list, click the name of a Front End Server or Standard Edition server, and then click Associate.
-
In the Associate Back-End Serverdialog box, in Archiving Back-End Server, select the name of the Archiving Server to associate with this Front End Server or Standard Edition server, and click OK.
-
If you are archiving an Enterprise pool, repeat steps 4 and 5 for each Front End Server in the pool.
-
If you have made any changes to the archiving settings, those changes may take some time to take effect.
WMI Settings for Archiving
In addition to the archiving settings that can be configured using the administrative tools, there are two settings that you can configure only by using Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI). These settings are used only if you have marked archiving as mission-critical. For details about changing WMI settings, see your Windows Server documentation.
Use WMI to configure the following properties of the MSFT_SIPLogSettingclass:
-
TimeToBeReceived. The time to wait for a message to be
archived after it reaches the Archiving Server’s destination queue
before the Office Communications Server service shuts down. The
default is 240 minutes.
-
TimeToReachQueue. The time to wait for a message to reach
the destination queue before the Office Communications Server
service shuts down. The default is 180 minutes.
