To provide security, media streams used in conferencing can be encrypted.

When you configure for encryption, you can specify that the inbound and outbound audio and video connections to the A/V Conferencing services in the pool require encryption, support encryption, or do not support encryption, as follows:

• The Require encryptionoption means that inbound and outbound audio and video connections to the A/V Conferencing services in the pool must be encrypted using Secure Real-Time Transport Protocol (SRTP). If you require encryption, a participant whose computer is not capable of SRTP encryption cannot join any audio/video conferences that are hosted by the A/V Conferencing services in this pool. (Office Communicator 2007 R2 clients support SRTP encryption. Legacy clients, such as Office Communicator 2005, support Triple Data Encryption Standard (3DES) encryption.)
  
  
• The Support encryptionoption means that inbound and outbound audio and video connections to the A/V Conferencing services in the pool can be encrypted using SRTP for clients that support it.
  
  
• The Do not support encryptionoption means that inbound and outbound audio and video connections to the A/V Conferencing services in the pool are not encrypted.
