Server management tasks are available in the Office Communications Server 2007 R2 snap-in, as well as from the Office Communications Server 2007 R2 extension for Computer Management. Table 1 shows the tasks and wizards that are available for managing servers. Wizards are available for all the tasks that are listed except for Startand Stop.

Deactivation of a server role or unified communications application

Make a server role or unified communications application unavailable to the Office Communications Server deployment. Deactivation includes removing the server’s service account and other settings, as well as applicable Active Directory settings.

Start and stop individual Office Communications Server services. This task can apply to all services or to individual services, such as Front End services (which are actually three separate services: Front End service, IM Conferencing service, and Telephony Conferencing service).
