You can open the Office Communications Server 2007 R2 snap-in from any computer in the domain on which the Office Communications Server 2007 R2 administrative tools have been installed.

Note:
In Office Communications Server 2007 R2, the administrative tools are not installed by default. For details about installing administrative tools on a computer, see Installing Administrative Tools.

You cannot use the Office Communications Server 2007 R2 snap-in to manage Edge Servers, Proxy Servers, or any server that is not joined to a domain. You can use the Computer Management snap-in extension to manage those computers. For details, see Using the Computer Management Snap-in Extension.

You can also manage Office Communications Server 2007 R2 users from Active Directory Users and Computers. For details, see Managing Users Using Active Directory Users and Computers.

To open the Office Communications Server 2007 R2 snap-in

  1. Log on to the computer using one of the following accounts:

    • To administer user account settings in the forest, an account that is a member of the RTCUniversalUserAdmins group, or an account with equivalent privileges.

    • For all other administration tasks in the forest, an account that is a member of the RTCUniversalServerAdmins group, or an account with equivalent privileges.

    Note:
    The RTCUniversalUserAdmins and RTCUniversalServerAdmins groups are created when you prepare the forest prior to deployment of Office Communications Server 2007 R2. You can choose to add users or groups to either or both of these two administration groups, or you can delegate administration. By delegating administration, you can grant a user or group the subset of the permissions required to administer a specific set of Office Communications Server users or a specific Office Communications Server.   2. Click Start, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Office Communications Server 2007 R2.
