Before you begin the migration to Office Communications Server 2007 R2, we strongly recommend that you perform a full system backup and document your existing system, including an inventory of user accounts that are homed on each pool, so that you can roll back to Live Communications Server 2005 if necessary.
If you choose to remove the Live Communications Server 2005 pool, you cannot use the Live Communications Server 2005 Lcscmd.exe tool to restore backups of the existing system onto the new system. You can export user data by using the Dbimpexp (that is, the Live Communications Server version) and import it into the new pool with the Office Communications Server 2007 R2 version of Lcscmd.exe.
To perform a backup of the existing Live Communications Server system components and users, see the following:

Server Standard Edition, see Live Communications Server 2005 with
SP1 Standard Edition Deployment guide at
- For details about these procedures that are specific to Live
Communications Server Enterprise Edition, see Live Communications

Multiple tools and programs are available for backing up and restoring data, settings, and systems. These documents focus on the use of tools and programs provided with Live Communications Server, as well as components available in SQL Server.
