Your Office Communications Server deployment requires initial configuration and user provisioning, as well as ongoing administration of components and usage to meet the growth and changing needs of your organization. Office Communications Server administrative tools include graphical MMC snap-ins and other tools that facilitate tracking and management of users and components, including the following:

Office Communications Server 2007 R2 administrative
tools.During deployment of Office Communications Server 2007
R2, you complete much of the configuration of the components by
using the deployment tool, but additional configuration requires
management tools that need to be readily available to the
administrators in your organization who are responsible for
managing the components and ongoing provisioning of all users.
Administrative tools are
notinstalled by default, but you can use the Deployment
Wizard to install all the administrative tools, except the Group
Chat tools (which you install using the Group Chat Setup Wizard).
This includes installation on Office Communications Server 2007 R2
servers and Communicator Web Access servers as well as on one or
more management computers, such as a management console from which
you want to centrally manage your Office Communications Server 2007
R2 deployment.
Office Communications Server 2007 R2 supports centralized administration, including the following:

Centralized user provisioning.To provision and administer
Office Communications Server users, you use the Active Directory
Users and Computers MMC snap-in and the administrative tools
provided with Office Communications Server, as well as on
Communications Web Access servers. To initially enable users, you
use Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS). Ongoing
provisioning and administration is supported in both Active
Directory Domain Services and the Office Communications Server
2007 R2 administrative tools.

Centralized administration of servers and other
components.You can use the Office Communications Server 2007 R2
administrative tools to centrally manage servers. You can also use
them to query the Back-End and Archiving databases of Office
Communications Server.

Centralized user provisioning.To provision and administer
Office Communications Server users, you use the Active Directory
Users and Computers MMC snap-in and the administrative tools
provided with Office Communications Server, as well as on
Communications Web Access servers. To initially enable users, you

Group Chat tools.Group Chat includes both the Communications
Server 2007 R2 Group Chat Administration Tool and a Server
Configuration Tool. When you install Office Communications Server
Group Chat server using the Group Chat Setup Wizard, both tools are
installed by default on the computer. You can use the Group Chat
Administration Tool to create categories and chat rooms, define
their scope and membership, create federated users and groups,
manage how users can use the chat rooms, and specify which users
are administrators and managers. You can use the Server
Configuration Tool to start, stop, and configure servers, manage
compliance, and set logging levels.
