Office Communications Server 2007 R2 requires that Active Directory forest and domain level are Windows 2003 or Windows 2008 prior to implementing Office Communications Server 2007 R2. You may need to upgrade your Active Directory before you implement Office Communications Server 2007 R2.

Setting up a separate Office Communications Server 2007 R2 pool requires schema prep, forest prep, domain prep, setup, and activation steps as described in Overview of Active Directory Domain Services Preparationin Preparing Active Directory Domain Services for Office Communications Server 2007 R2 in the Deployment documentation. In addition, moving the Office Communications Server global settings from the Active Directory system container to the Active Directory configuration container is recommended.
