Updating the clients is the last task that has user impact. You can deploy Office Communicator 2007 R2 across your organization by any method that supports a Microsoft Windows Installer package (.msi file). In addition, you can control key features and settings by using installation scripts or Active Directory Domain Services group policies.

For details about Office Communications Server 2007 R2, see Office Communicator Enhancementsin New Client Features in the Getting Started documentation and Deploying Communicator 2007 R2in the Client Planning and Deployment documentation.

However, you need to ensure that clients, especially remote and external clients, are fully functional with Office Communicator 2007 before deploying Office Communicator 2007 R2. For the external and remote users, ensure that the DNS and supporting elements of the Office Communications Server 2007 R2 Edge Servers are fully functional and providing the desired external and remote services before client rollout. Office Communications Server 2007 Edge Servers do not support the Office Communicator 2007 R2 client.
