If you used the Planning Tool to design your topology and then exported the design to an XML file, you can import information from that topology into Topology Builder. Importing the XML file imports FQDNs, IP addresses, and other information for most of your components into Topology Builder, so you don’t have to manually specify them. For information about how to use the Planning Tool to design your topology and export the XML file for use with Topology Builder, see Define and Configure a Topology in Topology Builder. Use the following procedure to import the XML file into Topology Builder.

To import the topology from the exported Planning Tool XML file into the Topology Builder

  1. Open Topology Builder.

  2. When Topology Builder opens, click Open Topology from a local file, and then click OK.

  3. Navigate to the file you saved from the Planning Tool export process, and then click Open.

  4. The topology server roles and settings from the file are populated in Topology Builder.
