In Communications Server 2010, A/V Conferencing Server functionality can be separated from the Front End Server role into a new server role called A/V Conferencing Server. This provides better scalability and performance for audio/video (A/V) conferencing.
You can choose whether to collocate A/V Conferencing with the Front End pool, or separate it. Microsoft recommends that organizations with sites of 10,000 or more users deploy a separate A/V Conferencing pool.
