Microsoft Communications Server 2010 supports a single forest or multiple-tree forest domain topology. This topic describes the requirements for Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS).

Supported Domain Controller Operating Systems

Communications Server 2010 supports the following operating systems:

  • Windows Server 2008 R2

  • Windows Server 2008 with Service Pack 1 (SP1) or later

  • Windows Server 2003

Forest and Domain Functional Level

All domains in which you deploy Communications Server 2010 must be raised to a domain functional level of at least Windows Server 2003. You cannot deploy Communications Server 2010 in a Windows 2000 mixed or Windows 2000 native domain.

All forests in which you deploy Communications Server 2010 must be raised to a forest functional level of at least Windows Server 2003.

Support for Read-Only Domain Controllers

Communications Server 2010 supports Active Directory Domain Services deployments that include read-only domain controllers or read-only global catalog servers, as long as there are writable domain controllers available.
