Microsoft Communications Server 2010 supports the Windows Server 2008 operating system with Service Pack 2 (SP2) and Windows Server 2008 R2. If you have an existing server running Windows Server 2008 Service Pack 1 (SP1), you must first upgrade it to either Windows Server 2008 SP2 or Windows Server 2008 R2.
