This topic describes the supported database management systems for the back-end database and the Archiving and Monitoring databases:

Back-end database server support:

Microsoft Communications Server 2010 no longer supports SQL Server 2008 32-bit edition as a back-end database. You must use the 64-bit edition.

The Archiving and Monitoring server roles require a full installation of SQL Server.

The Monitoring server roles require installing SQL Server Reporting Services as well.
SQL Server Web edition and SQL Server Workgroup edition are not supported and cannot be used by Communications Server 2010.
