Set an Update Schedule for a Recipient Update Service

Changes you make to address lists and to new address lists you create do not take effect until they are processed by a Recipient Update Service. You can select the update intervals of a Recipient Update Service to process changes to address lists, or you can customize the update schedule.

To set an update schedule:

  1. Start System Manager
On the Start menu, point to Programs, point to Microsoft Exchange, and then click System Manager.
  2. In the console tree, double-click Recipients, and then click Recipient Update Services.
  3. In the details pane, double-click the recipient update service for which you are setting an address list update schedule.
  4. To choose a preconfigured update interval, on the General tab, select one of the intervals provided in the Update interval drop-down list.
  5. Warning   The recipient update service must process recipient additions and updates in the domain. If you select Never run from the drop-down list, the address list and other critical attributes, such as e-mail addresses, will not be updated.

  6. To set a specific update schedule, click Customize. On the Schedule dialog box, set the update schedule on the day and time grid displayed. To return to the Recipient Update Service Properties dialog box, click OK.
  7. Note   If you customize an update schedule, updates begin at the beginning of the first grid block that you select. Set an update schedule that allows enough time for address list generation to complete before the next interval begins. For example, if you specify three updates in a 24-hour period, and it takes four hours to update the address lists, there must be at least four hours between each interval.

  8. Click Apply, and then click OK.
