Creating an Exception List

You might want to allow chat members to use specific words that the Profanity Filter word list would otherwise block. You can do so with an exception list. You can create an exception list specifically for a selected filter or use the default filter exceptions list (which is initially empty).

To create an exception list:

  1. Start System Manager
On the Start menu, point to Programs, point to Microsoft Exchange, and then click System Manager.
  2. Navigate to the IRCX folder for the server hosting the chat community where you want to filter offensive language.

    3. IRCX
  3. Right-click IRCX, and then click Properties.
  4. Choose the chat community where you want to filter chats from the list.
  5. Click Properties, then click Extensions.
  6. Select the Profanity Filter extension from the list in Extensions, and then click Properties.
  7. In Edit Filters, clear the Use default filter exceptions check box, and then click Edit Filter Exceptions.
  8. In Edit Filter Exceptions, click Add.
  9. In Add Word, in Word, type a word that you do not want blocked.
  10. Repeat steps 8 and 9 to add additional words.
