Set Message Filtering

The message filter list is a list of defined addresses or address spaces. You can use message filtering to add or modify domains or users who cannot deliver e-mail to your organization.

This list applies to all IP addresses configured on every Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) virtual server in your organization. However, message filtering only occurs when you enable it for a particular IP address that is bound to a virtual server. You can have more than one IP address associated with an SMTP virtual server.

To create a message filter list

  1. Start System Manager
On the Start menu, point to Programs, point to Microsoft Exchange, and then click System Manager.
  2. Double-click Global Settings.
  3. Right-click Message Delivery, and then click Properties.
  4. On the Filtering tab, click Add.
  5. Type in the name of the sender whose messages you would like to filter, and then click OK.
  6. Repeat steps 4 and 5 for every sender you would like to add to the message filter list.
  7. Filtered messages are deleted unless you select Archive filtered messages. Messages will be kept in the <root>\Exchsrvr\Mailroot\<vsi #>\Filter directory, where <vsi #> is the SMTP virtual server.

Note   The Filter directory is automatically created in the virtual server's directory when the first message is filtered.
