The Microsoft Exchange Database Troubleshooter tool detected one or more MSExchangeIS 9518 events with error code 0xfffffbc4 in the Application log. This error code indicates that one or more Storage Groups are configured to use the same Log files path or System files path.

Explanation

This error can occur if multiple Storage Groups have been configured to use the same Log files path or System files path. Exchange requires that each Storage Group have a unique path for log and system files.

User Action

To resolve this issue, make sure that each Storage Group is configured with a unique Log files path and System files path.

Note:
A discrete Storage Group can share the same Log files path and System files path. But that same path cannot be used as a Log files path or System files path for another Storage Group.
To verify or set the Log files path and System files path on Exchange 2000 Server or Exchange Server 2003
  1. Open Exchange System Manager.

  2. Expand Administrative Groups, expand your administrative group, expand Servers, right-click your storage group, and then click Properties.

  3. On the General tab, under Transaction log location, click Browse.

  4. Verify that the Log files path and System files path are unique to the Storage Group.

  5. If the Storage Group Log files path and System files path are not unique to the Storage Group, enter the path of the new location for the log files and or system files, and then click OK.

  6. Click OK.

To verify or set the Log files path and System files path for a Storage Group for Exchange Server 2007
  1. Open the Exchange Management Console.

  2. Expand Server Configuration, and highlight Mailbox.

  3. In the Mailbox pane, select the server you want to work with.

  4. In the Database Management pane, right-click the Storage Group you want to work with and select Properties.

  5. Verify that the Log files path and System files path are unique to the Storage Group.

  6. If the Storage Group Log files path and System files path are not unique to the Storage Group, follow the guidance in the Exchange Server 2007 documentation, "How to Set or Change the Location of Storage Group Log Files" (http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=80702) to set the file paths to a unique location for each Storage Group.
