The Microsoft® Exchange Server Analyzer Tool queries the CIM_Datafile Microsoft Windows® Management Instrumentation (WMI) class to determine the value that is set for the Version key for ERME2KAsyncSink.dll. If the Exchange Server Analyzer finds the value of Version for ERME2KAsyncSink.dll is less than 1015, a warning is displayed.

The ERME2KAsyncSink.dll file is a core binary for Simpler-Webb Exchange Resource Manager (ERM). If the version of ERME2KAsyncSink.dll is less than 1015, it indicates that ERM version 1.2 or earlier is installed on the server. There is a known issue with ERM version 1.2 that can cause the Exchange local delivery queue to stop the delivery of messages as Exchange OLE DB awaits a return call from the ERM event sink. Microsoft Exchange OLEDB is waiting for the event sink ERME2KAsyncSink.dll to return from OnSyncSave call, while Exchange store shutdown is in progress.

A failure to return from this call could prevent Exchange Store from completing shutdown. This issue is resolved in ERM version 1.35.

To correct this warning

  1. Use Add or Remove Programs to manually remove ERM version 1.2.

  2. Install ERM version 1.35, which is available at the Simpler-Webb Web site (http://www.swinc.com/products/ERM/upgrade/).
