This topic provides information about how to troubleshoot an issue in which a Windows Mobile client device is forced to resynchronize with a whole mailbox. This issue occurs when Exchange ActiveSync is used to connect to a Mailbox server that is running Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 Service Pack 1 (SP1).

Assume that a Windows Mobile client device is synchronized with a mailbox on an Exchange 2007 SP1 Client Access server. The next time that the device tries to connect to the mailbox, the device reports that there is an error on the server. The device must fully resynchronize with the mailbox to resolve the issue.

This issue occurs if you run the Get-ActiveSyncDeviceStatistics cmdlet from a client computer that is running the RTM version of the Exchange 2007 Management Tools to retrieve information about a mailbox that is located on the Mailbox server. When the device is synchronized with the mailbox on the Exchange 2007 SP1 Client Access server, the sync state is saved in the SP1 format. When the Get-ActiveSyncDeviceStatistics cmdlet is run from the RTM version of the Exchange 2007 Management Tools, the sync state for the device is removed. Therefore, the next time that the device connects to the mailbox on the Exchange 2007 SP 1 Mailbox server, the sync state is missing, and the device must resynchronize with the mailbox.

To resolve this issue, install the Exchange 2007 SP1 version of the Exchange 2007 Management Tools on the client computer, and then run the Get-ActiveSyncDeviceStatistics cmdlet.
