This topic provides information about why you receive an error message when you use the New-ActiveSyncVirtualDirectory cmdlet to create the Microsoft-Server-ActiveSync virtual directory on a computer that is running Microsoft Exchange Server 2007.

When you use the New-ActiveSyncVirtualDirectory cmdlet to create the Microsoft-Server-ActiveSync virtual directory, you receive the following error message:

WARNING: A failure occurred while trying to enable the ISAPI filter.

New-ActiveSyncVirtualDirectory : An error occurred while creating the IIS virtual

directory 'IIS://ServerName.example.com/W3SVC/1/ROOT/Microsoft-Server-ActiveSync' on ServerName.

Cause

This issue occurs if the Remote Registry service is turned off.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, turn on the Remote Registry service. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Click Start, click Run, type services.msc, and then click OK.

  2. In the Services dialog box, double-click Remote Registry.

  3. In the Remote Registry Properties (Local Computer) dialog box, click Automatic in the Startup type list if this option is not already selected.

  4. Click Start.

  5. After the Remote Registry service has started successfully, click OK.
