The Microsoft® Exchange Server Analyzer Tool examines the Win32_OperatingSystem Microsoft Windows® Management Instrumentation (WMI) class to determine the value for the ServicePackMajorVersion key. The Exchange Server Analyzer also examines the following registry entry to determine the version of Windows that is running on the target computer:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\CurrentVersion

If the Exchange Server Analyzer determines that the target system is running a Windows 2000 Server operating system but is not running Service Pack 4 for Windows 2000 Server, a warning is displayed.

As a best practice, it is recommended that you install the latest service packs for all software in your Exchange deployment.

To correct this warning

  1. Update all domain controllers and global catalog servers that are running a Windows 2000 Server operating system to Service Pack 4, plus the latest hotfixes and updates from Windows Update.

  2. Update all Exchange Server computers to the latest service pack and update rollup.
