Microsoft® Exchange Server 2007 setup cannot continue because the registry on the local computer could not be accessed.

Exchange 2007 setup requires access to the local registry to retrieve various settings.

Exchange setup tries to use the Domain Name System (DNS) to obtain the fully qualified domain name (FQDN) of the local computer to access the registry.

Either setup was unable to retrieve the FQDN from the DNS because of a network error or it was unable to access the registry.

To address this issue, verify that the remote registry service is running on the local computer and that File and Print Sharing is enabled on the first network adapter in the binding order, and then run Exchange setup again.

To verify the Remote Registry Service is running
  1. Click Start, point to Settings, Control Panel, Administrative Tools, and then double-click Services.

  2. Verify that the Remote Registry Service has a status of Started.

To enable File and Print Sharing on the primary network adapter
  1. Click Start, point to Settings, Control Panel, Network Connections, and then Local Area Connection.

  2. Verify that File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks is enabled, that is, the check box is selected.

Note:
If this is a clustered server, you must verify that the Remote Registry service is running on all nodes of the cluster and that File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks is enabled for the network adapter that is listed first in the binding order.
