The Microsoft® Exchange Server Analyzer Tool queries the Active Directory® directory service to determine the value of the msExchSynchronizationDirection attribute on each connection agreement object. The msExchSynchronizationDirection attribute represents the direction in which the directories will be synchronized. If this attribute is set to 2, a warning is displayed.

The msExchSynchronizationDirection attribute can have a value of 0 or 2. If this attribute is set to 0, it indicates a two-way connection agreement. If this attribute is set to 2, it is a one-way connection agreement from the Exchange Server computer.

As a best practice, it is recommended that you use two-way connection agreements. Mixed-mode Exchange environments (those where Exchange Server 5.5 coexists with Exchange 2000 Server and/or Exchange Server 2003) require a two-way connection agreement.

To correct this warning

  1. Remove the existing one-way connection agreement.

  2. Create a replacement two-way connection agreement.
