The first task in removing a Survivable Branch Appliance or a Survivable Branch Server is to remove the Survivable Branch Appliance or Survivable Branch Server that is defined in your topology by using Topology Builder. The process involves moving users homed on the Survivable Branch Appliance or Survivable Branch Server, removing any associations between public switched telephone network (PSTN) gateways and the Mediation Server that is used by the Survivable Branch Server or is collocated with the Survivable Branch Appliance.

To remove the Survivable Branch Appliance or Survivable Branch Server defined in Topology Builder

  1. Stop the monitoring of devices or computers by System Center Operations Manager 2007 R2 or third-party monitoring application.

  2. Move all users homed on the Survivable Branch Appliance or Survivable Branch Server to another pool or branch site.

    Note:
For details, see Move Users to Another Pool.
  3. Log on to the computer where Topology Builder is installed as a member of the Domain Admins group and the RTCUniversalServerAdmins group.

  4. Start Topology Builder: Click Start, click All Programs, click Microsoft Lync Server 2010, and then click Lync Server Topology Builder.

  5. When Topology Builder prompts you to select the source of the Lync Server 2010 topology documents, click Download Topology from existing deployment, and then click OK.

  6. Type a name for the topology document in File name on Save Topology As, and then click Save.

  7. In the console tree, expand the central site, expand Branch sites, and then expand the name of the branch site where you plan to remove the Survivable Branch Appliance or Survivable Branch Server.

  8. Expand PSTN gateways, right-click the PSTN gateways associated with the Survivable Branch Appliance or Survivable Branch Server that you want to remove, and then click Delete.

  9. Repeat the previous step until all PSTN gateways associated with the Survivable Branch Appliance or Survivable Branch Server that you want to remove have been deleted.

  10. Expand Survivable Branch Appliances, right-click the Survivable Branch Appliance or Survivable Branch Server that you want to remove, and then click Delete.

    Warning:
If you accidentally delete the wrong object and you have not published the topology yet, right-click the Lync Server 2010 node, click Download Topology, and then click Yes in Confirm Download Topology.
  11. If this was the last Survivable Branch Appliance or Survivable Branch Server in the branch site, delete the branch site in Topology Builder by right-clicking the branch site, and then clicking Delete.

  12. Publish the topology, check replication status, and then run the Lync Server Deployment Wizard as needed.
