After installing Communicator Mobile for Java, users need to start it and configure it, as appropriate to their needs. This section includes the following procedures:

To use Communicator Mobile for Java, you need a connection to your organization’s Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 R2 environment. The server and account information that you use to connect to Office Communicator is the same information that you use with Communicator Mobile for Java.

To start Communicator Mobile for Java

  • To start Communicator Mobile for Java, click Menu, click the Applications folder (you may have to browse within this folder to find the folder containing the application), select Communicator Mobile, and then click Open.

To configure the user account

  1. Scroll to Domain/Username, and then enter your domain name and user name in the specified format.

  2. Scroll to Password, and then enter the password for your domain account.

  3. If you do not want to type your password every time you sign in to Office Communicator, select the Remember passwordcheck box. For security purposes, this is not recommended.

  4. In Server Address, type the server address provided by your administrator.

To sign in

  • Click Sign In, and then do one of the following:

    • If you did not select the Remember Passwordcheck box when you configured your account, type your password.

    • If you selected the Remember Passwordcheck box when you configured your account, type your PIN on the next screen. To set up your PIN, type a four-digit numeric PIN when you sign in for the first time.

      Note:
      The PIN controls offline access, keypad lock, and use if you select the Save passwordoption.

To change or add a PIN to control access

  • On the PIN Locktab of the Settingswindow, type the four-digit, numeric-only PIN twice to confirm the changes.

To use a PIN to control access

  1. To lock your keypad, on the Optionsmenu, click Lock.

    Note:
    Locking your phone requires that you type your PIN before you can use it. If you do not use the phone for five minutes, it automatically locks.

  2. To unlock your keypad, click Unlock, and then type your four-digit numeric PIN.

    Note:
    Because the Nokia S60 phone is protected by its Phone Lock, you do not need to configure a PIN.

To configure notification alerts

  1. Click Options, and then click Settings.

  2. On the Generaltab, click Settings. To hear a tone that alerts you when a new conversation begins, select the Tone for new conversationcheck box.

To configure Unread IM alerts

  1. Click Options, and then click Settings.

  2. To receive an alert when you have unread IM, on the Generaltab, select the Unread IM Alertcheck box.

To enable logging

  1. Click Options, and then click Settings.

  2. On the Generaltab, click Settings, and then select the Turn on diagnostic loggingcheck box.
