You do not need Office Communicator 2007 R2 in order to install Communications Server 2007 R2 Attendant. You cannot run Communications Server 2007 R2 Attendant if Office Communicator 2007 R2 is running. Therefore, we recommend that you do not have both applications installed on the same computer. You first must close and exit Office Communicator 2007 R2 before you start Communications Server 2007 R2 Attendant.

The integration of Communications Server 2007 R2 Attendant with Microsoft Office applications, specifically Office Outlook, is affected by whether Office Communicator 2007 R2 is also installed on the computer and by the order in which Communications Server 2007 R2 Attendant and Office Communicator were installed or uninstalled.

Table 1 describes the behavior of Communications Server 2007 R2 Attendant with Microsoft Office applications if Office Communicator 2007 R2 is also installed. It has been observed that the last application installed typically works correctly with Outlook.

Cached Exchange Mode

For the best performance, make sure that cached Exchange mode is enabled for the Microsoft Exchange server. Cached Exchange mode is the default setting that lets users access old data when the e-mail server is not available. Communications Server 2007 R2 Attendant performs better when cached Exchange mode is enabled.

To enable it, select the box for Use Cached Exchange Modeunder the Microsoft Exchange server namein the Change E-mail Accountdialog box in Office Outlook.
