This topic describes how the attributes on the User and contact objects are modified when you run the Office Communications Server Sync tool as described earlier in Step 1: Configure MIIS for Office Communications Server 2007 R2.

Table 1 and Table 2 later in this topic give details about the attributes synchronized by the Office Communications Server Sync tool for user objects and the corresponding contacts.

The Office Communications Server Sync tool synchronizes the following attributes:

  • ObjectSid

  • telephoneNumber

  • displayName

  • givenName

  • sn (surname)

  • physicalDeliveryOfficeName

  • l (city)

  • st (state)

  • Country

  • Title

  • Mail

  • Company

  • Cn

  • Distinguished name

If you are using GAL (global address list) sync with Microsoft Exchange Server 2003, you must manually configure GAL sync to synchronize the distinguished name of user to populate the msDS-SourceObjectDN on the contact object for the user. The attribute is automatically synchronized by the Office Communications Server Sync tool.

Table 1 shows how attributes are mapped from a user object to a contact object using the example user, User A.
