Configure internal and external Domain Name System (DNS) records to support the new system. For the side-by-side migration, your clients have to authenticate to the new Office Communications Server 2007 R2 pool and then be redirected from there to the Live Communications Server pool.

The SRV record can point only to a single pool. In a mixed environment the supported configuration is an Office Communications Server 2007 R2 Director (that is, a pool) with Live Communications Server and Office Communications Server 2007 R2 pools. This means that during migration you configure DNS records to point to the Office Communications Server 2007 R2 Director. After the Office Communications Server 2007 R2 pool or director is in place, update the SRV record to the new Office Communications Server 2007 R2 Director. You need to make the appropriate changes to the _sipinternaltls._tcp DNS record. For details, see Create and Verify DNS Records for Your Server or Poolin the Deployment documentation.

You need to prepare a complete set of DNS records to support the Office Communications Server 2007 R2 Edge Server. The new system features require additional IP addresses and requisite DNS records for A/V, Media Relay, Access Edge, and reverse proxy (Web Components). For details, see DNS Requirements for External User Accessin the Planning and Architecture documentation.

To create and configure DNS records for new servers

  1. For each Standard Edition server and Enterprise pool, create the records as explained in Create and Verify DNS Records for Your Server or Pool.

  2. For each Edge Server or Edge Server array, create the records as explained in DNS Requirements for External User Access.

Note:
Do not make any changes to existing DNS records. After you deprecate the existing servers, you will remove these records.
