Select or Change the Offline Address List Server

The offline address list server is the computer where the offline address list files are generated and stored. When users remotely download an offline address list to their local computers, the files are copied from a hidden offline address list public folder.

If you increase the number of address lists contained in the offline address list, you may want to select a different server for the offline address list. You can change the offline address list server so that the offline address list is generated and stored on a server other than the one you originally specified.

Tip   If you have a large number of address lists in an offline address list, the server selected for the offline address list will have to work harder. For increased server performance, select a server that is not busy performing other tasks.

To select a server for an offline address list:

  1. Start System Manager
On the Start menu, point to Programs, point to Microsoft Exchange, and then click System Manager.
  2. In the console tree, double-click Recipients, and then click Offline Address Lists.
  3. In the details pane, double-click the offline address list for which you want to select the offline address list server.
  4. In the offline address list Properties dialog box, on the General tab, click Browse.
  5. In the Select Exchange Server dialog box, under Name, select the Exchange server that is to be used for the offline address list, and then click OK.
  6. In the offline address list Properties dialog box, click Apply, and then click OK.
