Use this tab to create, view, and configure mailbox policies for Unified Messaging. Unified Messaging (UM) Active Directory mailbox policies are required when you enable users for Exchange Server 2010 Unified Messaging. UM mailbox policies let you apply and standardize Unified Messaging configuration settings for UM-enabled users. By default, a single UM mailbox policy is created every time that you create a UM dial plan. The new UM mailbox policy will be associated with the UM dial plan, and part of the dial plan name will be included in the display name of the UM mailbox policy. You can use UM mailbox policy to apply a common set of policies or security settings to a collection of UM-enabled mailboxes. You use Unified Messaging mailbox policies to set Unified Messaging settings for UM-enabled users such as the following:
- PIN policies
- Dialing restrictions
- Other general UM mailbox policy properties
The result pane lets you view a subset of properties for a UM auto attendant. This includes the name, associated dial plan, and its status.
- Name
-
This column in the result pane lets you view the display name for auto attendants that have been created. If your organization uses multiple auto attendants, you should use meaningful names for the auto attendants. The maximum length for a display name is 64 characters and it can contain spaces.
- Associated UM Dial Plan
-
This column in the result pane lets you view the UM dial plans that are associated with UM mailbox policies that have been created. After you have created a UM mailbox policy, the dial plan associated with the UM mailbox policy can't be changed. If you need to associate a UM mailbox policy with a different dial plan, you must delete it and then associate the UM mailbox policy with the correct dial plan when you re-create it.
- Min PIN Length
-
This column in the result pane lets you view the minimum number of digits that a UM user's PIN can contain. The default setting is six numeric digits. The range is from 4 through 24 digits. This setting can't be disabled.
- Logon Failures
-
This column in the result pane lets you view number of sequential unsuccessful or failed logon attempts that can occur before the Unified Messaging system automatically resets a user's PIN. For most organizations, this value should be set to the default of 5 attempts.
- Max Logon Attempts
-
This column in the result pane lets you view maximum number of sequential unsuccessful or failed logon attempts before users are locked out of their mailbox.
- PIN Lifetime
-
This column in the result pane lets you view the number of days until the UM-enabled user's PIN expires. After the PIN expires, the user must create a new UM PIN. For most organizations, this value should be set to the default of 60 days
- Remove
-
You can use the action pane to remove a UM mailbox policy. Alternatively, you can right-click the UM mailbox policy and select Remove from the list of available options.
- Properties
-
You can use the action pane to view the properties of a UM mailbox policy or make any changes to the UM mailbox policy's configuration. Alternatively, you can right-click the UM mailbox policy and select Properties from the list of available options.
After you create a UM dial plan and the default UM mailbox policy is created, you may have to perform the following tasks:
