This topic explains how to use an administrative command prompt to resolve an installation error that may occur when you try to install Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 Service Pack 1 (SP1) on a computer that is running Windows Server 2008.
When you try to install Exchange 2007 SP1 on a Windows Server 2008-based computer, you receive the following error message:
Setup failed due to insufficient permissions. Please make sure that the current user has local administrator permissions.
Error: The source was not found, but some or all event logs could not be searched.
Inaccessible logs: Security
You experience this issue even when you use an account with administrative credentials to log on.
This issue may occur because of the User Account Control (UAC) feature in Windows Server 2008. UAC requires that administrators explicitly approve applications that make system-wide changes before the applications can run. This requirement even affects an administrator's session.
To resolve this issue, run the Exchange 2007 SP1 Setup program from an administrative command prompt. To do this, follow these steps:
- Click Start, right-click Command Prompt, and then
click Run as administrator.
- At the administrative command prompt, run the
Exchange 2007 SP1 Setup program.
