Use the Mailbox Settings tab to manage messaging records management (MRM) policies and storage quotas for the mailbox user. To view or change a mailbox setting, select the setting from the list, and then click Properties.

The following mailbox settings are available for a mailbox user.

Messaging Records Management

Select this setting, and then click Properties to open the Messaging Records Management dialog box. Use this dialog box to configure the following MRM options for a mailbox user:

• Managed folder mailbox policy   Managed folder mailbox policies contain one or more managed folder settings for your Exchange organization. Assigning a managed folder mailbox policy to the mailbox will enable MRM for the mailbox. MRM helps you to:
  
  
  • Reduce the risks that are associated with e-mail and other communications by making it easier to keep what is needed to comply with company policy, government regulations, or legal needs.
    
    
  • Remove content that has no legal or business value.
    
    
• Suspend expiration of items from this mailbox   You can specify a time period to suspend the expiration of items from the mailbox. This allows you to temporarily stop MRM processing on the mailbox without removing the assigned managed folder mailbox policy.

Storage Quotas

Select this setting, and then click Properties to open the Storage Quotas dialog box. Use this dialog box to configure the following quota options for a mailbox user:

• Storage quotas   Storage quotas help administrators control the size of mailbox databases by specifying a maximum mailbox size.
  
  

  Note:

  By default, all mailboxes use the quotas that are configured for the mailbox database. You can use the Storage Quotas dialog box to configure specific quotas for a mailbox. Mailbox-specific settings override the settings that are configured for the mailbox database. For more information about configuring storage quotas for mailbox databases, see How to Configure Storage Quotas for a Mailbox Database.

• Deleted item retention   For a specific amount of time, Exchange retains items that are permanently deleted from user mailboxes. This feature enables users to recover accidentally deleted items without having to restore the Exchange database.
  
  

  Note:

  By default, all mailboxes use the deleted item retention setting that is configured for the mailbox database. You can use the Storage Quotas dialog box to configure specific deleted item retention settings for a mailbox. Mailbox-specific settings override the settings that are configured for the mailbox database.
