Use the General tab to configure the transport limits and transport dumpster settings for all Hub Transport servers in the Exchange organization.
- Transport Limits
-
- Maximum receive size (KB) This field
specifies the maximum message size that can be received by
recipients in the organization. The default value is 10240 KB.
The valid input range is 0 to 2097151 KB. If you clear
the check box next to Maximum receive size (KB), no limit is
imposed on the message size that can be received by recipients in
the organization.
- Maximum send size (KB) This field
specifies the maximum message size that can be sent by senders in
the organization. The default value is 10240 KB. The valid
input range is 0 to 2097151 KB. If you clear the check
box next to Maximum send size (KB), no limit is imposed on
the message size that can be sent by senders in the
organization.
- Maximum number of recipients This field
specifies the maximum number of recipients in a message. The
default is 5000. The valid input range is 0
to 2147483647. If you clear the check box next to Maximum
number of recipients, no limit is imposed on the number of
recipients in a message. Microsoft Exchange Server 2007
treats an unexpanded distribution group as one recipient.
- Transport Dumpster
-
The transport dumpster is a feature of the Hub Transport server role that should be enabled when using cluster continuous replication (CCR) or local continuous replication (LCR). The transport dumpster submits recently delivered mail after an unscheduled outage in a CCR environment, and as part of the activation process in an LCR environment. The transport dumpster is used only in LCR and CCR environments. The transport dumpster settings are described in the following list:
- Maximum size per storage group
(MB) This field specifies the maximum size of
the transport dumpster for each storage group. The default value is
18 MB. The valid input range for this parameter is 0
to 2097151 MB.
To enable the transport dumpster, the value of Maximum size per storage group (MB) must be greater than 0, and the value of Maximum retention time (days) must be greater than 0.
We recommend that you configure this value, which specifies the maximum size of the transport dumpster queue for each storage group, to a size that is 1.5 times the size of the maximum message that can be sent in the organization. If the organization has no size limits, we recommend that you configure this value to a size that is 1.5 times the size of the average message size sent in the organization. For example, if the maximum size for messages is 10 megabytes (MB), you should set the maximum size per storage group to 15 MB.
- Maximum retention time (days) This
field specifies how long an e-mail message should remain in the
transport dumpster. The default value is seven days. The valid
input range is 0 to 24855 days.
To enable the transport dumpster, the value of Maximum size per storage group (MB) must be greater than 0, and the value of Maximum retention time (days) must be greater than 0.
We recommend that you configure this value, which specifies how long an e-mail message should remain in the transport dumpster queue, to a value of 07.00:00:00, which is 7 days. This amount of time is sufficient to allow for an extended outage to occur without loss of e-mail. When you use the transport dumpster feature, you need additional disk space on the Hub Transport server to host the transport dumpster queues.
- Maximum size per storage group
(MB) This field specifies the maximum size of
the transport dumpster for each storage group. The default value is
18 MB. The valid input range for this parameter is 0
to 2097151 MB.
