Use the Find dialog box to search for recipients in your organization whose name, alias, or e-mail address matches a specific search string.

Important:
While the Find dialog box is open, you cannot perform other tasks in the Exchange Management Console. Any wizard or property pages that are open when you open the Find dialog box will be inaccessible. To return to the Exchange Management Console, you must close all dialog boxes and property pages that are associated with the Find dialog box, including the Find dialog box itself.
Search

Use this text box to type the search string that you want to use to find recipients.

Important:
The search string that you provide must be at least three characters long. Leading or trailing spaces are not included in the total.
Note:
You cannot use wildcard characters in your search string.
Find Now

Click this button to start the search. The search returns all recipients whose first name, last name, display name, user principal name (UPN), alias, or e-mail address begin with the specified search string. For example, if you search for the string ter, the search results will include the recipient Terry Adams, but not Adam Carter.

The Find Now button is unavailable while a search is in progress. After the search completes or is cancelled, it is available again.

Clear or Stop

Click Clear to clear the search results and the information that is displayed on the status bar.

Click Stop to stop the search that is in progress. Partial results may be displayed if matching recipients have been found while the search was in progress.

Note:
While a search is in progress, the Clear button changes to Stop. If you stop the search, or the search completes, the button changes back to Clear.

When a search completes, the result pane of the Find dialog box displays a list of recipient objects that match the search criteria.

If you double-click a recipient in the result pane, the property pages for that recipient are displayed. If you right-click a recipient, the context menu displays all the actions you can perform on that recipient type. For a list of actions available for each specific recipient type, see the following:

Note:
If you have multiple recipients of different types selected in the result pane, the context menu does not display any actions. If you have multiple recipients of the same type selected in the result pane, the context menu only displays a subset of actions available for that recipient type. For example, if you right-click a single mailbox, you can launch the Manage Send As Permission wizard for that mailbox. However, if you have multiple mailboxes selected, the context menu only displays Disable, Remove, and Move Mailbox actions.
