The Microsoft® Exchange Server Analyzer Tool queries the Active Directory® directory service distingushedName attribute of the protocolCfgSMTPServer object class to determine whether a Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) virtual server instance is running for the user-specified Exchange gateway server name.
If the Exchange Server Analyzer cannot find an SMTP virtual service instance for the user-specified Exchange gateway server, the Exchange Server Analyzer displays an error.
This error may be caused by temporary networking issues but may also indicate incorrect information in Active Directory.
To resolve this issue, review the SMTP virtual server configuration for the user-specified Exchange gateway server.
To view the SMTP virtual server instance configuration-
Start Exchange System Manager:
Click Start, point to Programs, point to Microsoft Exchange, and then click System Manager.
-
Navigate to the following container:
\Administrative Groups\GroupName\Servers\ServerName\Protocols\SMTP\SMTP Virtual Server Instance\
-
Right-click the SMTP virtual server instance you want and then select Properties.
-
Verify the SMTP virtual server instance configuration is correct.
