The Microsoft® Exchange Server Analyzer Tool reads the following registry entry to determine whether the Mailbox Cache Idle Limit is present:
If the Exchange Server Analyzer finds the Mailbox Cache Idle Limit registry entry present, a non-default configuration message is displayed.
Exchange Server allows size limits (quotas) to be set on mailboxes. Quota settings are stored in the Active Directory® directory service, and the Exchange server periodically reads the information in Active Directory to determine whether any changes were made to these limits. Exchange Server caches this information for a period of time, after which it re-reads the information in Active Directory.
The Mailbox Cache Age Limit setting and the Mailbox Cache Idle Limit setting control how long the entries in the mailbox information cache survive. An item will be removed from the cache if it has been in the cache longer than the time (in seconds) in the Mailbox Cache Age Limit setting. An item will be removed from the cache if it is not used for the time (in seconds) in the Mailbox Cache Idle Limit. The default values for these settings are 7,200 seconds (120 minutes) for the Mailbox Cache Age Limit setting and 900 seconds (15 minutes) for the Mailbox Cache Idle Limit setting. The value of the Mailbox Cache Idle Limit setting should not be more than the value of the Mailbox Cache Age Limit setting.
