Because Microsoft Lync Server 2010 uses mutual TLS (MTLS) authentication, each computer running Microsoft Lync Server 2010, Group Chat (running the Lookup service, the Channel service, and the Web service) requires a certificate issued by the same certification authority (CA) as the one used by Lync Server 2010. The certificate is initially configured during installation, but you can change it by opening the Microsoft Lync Server 2010, Group Chat Configuration tool, and clicking Machine Wide on the left side of the console tree.

To change the certificate used to communicate with Lync Server

  1. Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Lync Server 2010 Group Chat.

  2. Open the Microsoft Lync Server 2010, Group Chat Configuration tool.

  3. On the File menu, click Configure Server Settings.

  4. On the left side of the console tree, click Machine Wide.

  5. Click Browse, and then select the certificate to be used.
