The following procedure describes how to change the scope of a category.

Note:
This procedure does not apply to the root category. The scope of the root category can be changed only in the Manage Users and User Groups dialog box. For details, see Setting the Scope for the Root Category.

To change the scope of a category

  1. Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Microsoft Lync Server 2010, and then click Microsoft Lync Server 2010, Group Chat Admin Tool.

  2. In the Chat Rooms list, click the category, and then click the Scope tab.

  3. On the Scope tab, select the Override check box.

    Important:
If the Override check box is cleared, this category automatically inherits the parent category’s scope, and scope cannot be changed here.

If the Override check box is unavailable, the Allow subcategory scope changes check box for the parent of this category is cleared. If you want to change scope here, you must first select the Allow subcategory scope changes check box for the parent category. If the parent’s Allow subcategory scope changes setting is unavailable, go to that category’s parent category to select the Allow subcategory scope changes check box.

  4. Initially, when you override scope, the members list is empty. Add users or groups to the membership list by clicking Add, and then doing the following:

    • In the Search For box, type a name or part of a name to search for, and then click Search. To limit your search to only exact matches for your search criteria, enclose the search criteria in quotation marks.

Because the membership of a chat room or category must be a subset of its scope, only names in the scope are returned.

    • In the list of names that match your query, click one or more names, and then click Add.

    • When you are finished adding names from the list, click Close.

  5. (Optional) To remove a user or group from the scope list, on the Scope tab, click the name in the list, and then click Remove.

  6. When you are finished making changes to the membership list, click Apply.
